Description

Ashadeepam Convent School started as a challenge to provide education to the neglected mentally retarded children in Koonathara area at Palakkad District in the State of Kerala on 25th August 1994. Koonathara is a small place in the District of Palakkad. Although the place has some elementary and high schools, it is the only special school for the training, development and the rehabilitation of the mentally disabled around the vast Shornur Municipal area. It was registered as a society in 1995 under the Reg. No. 220/95. There are 11 teachers and 3 non-teaching staff. Non-teaching staff assists the teachers in working with the mentally retarded child. Staff have been trained in various Bed colleges for special education and diploma courses in occupational and care taken trades of mentally retarded persons.
